Measurements for Rentals
Accurate measurements are a VERY IMPORTANT part of the rental process process. We suggest costumes based on the measurements you provide. We find that having an extra person take videos and photos while you measure your dancer and upload these to a google drive folder to share with us can be very helpful. There are no refunds based on errors in measurements.
Our rental contract allows for small, hand-sewn alterations as traditional style ballet costumes are similar to formalwear in that they often need light alterations to accommodate the fit preferences of different dancers; some dancers like an exceptionally tight fit, almost corseting them in, and some dancers prefer a little more room. Sometimes there are variations in even the most accurate measurements, based on a dancer’s water weight, small weight fluctuations, and where they are in their cycle. These small alterations are often something a local seamstress or mom can handle as they require no more sewing skill than sewing ribbons on pointe shoes.
Measuring tips
- Dancers should never measure themselves
- Make sure your dancer is standing straight and pulled up like they are onstage
- Make sure your dancer is looking straight ahead, not down at what you’re doing
- Do NOT add anything for expected growth
- Do NOT subtract anything for expected weight loss
- Measuring in front of a mirror allows you to see that the tape measure is placed horizontally across the body
- Please submit all measurements in INCHES
